DirectMed Parts & Service Invests in ScanMed

DirectMed Parts & Service LLC has acquired ScanMed LLC, an MRI coil designer, manufacturer, and repair firm. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“For over 10 years ScanMed has been our go-to vendor for the most complicated MRI coil repairs. All of us at DirectMed are delighted to partner with Dr. Jones and his team of physicists, electrical engineers, RF repair technicians, and customer support personnel,” DirectMed President/CEO Brad de Koning said. “There will be no changes to the ScanMed brand, the Omaha operation, or their commitment to their entire healthcare client base.”

Founded in 2004 and based in Omaha, Neb., ScanMed is an OEM-certified MRI coil company that designs and repairs thousands of different MRI coils for GE Healthcare, Siemens, Philips, and Canon/Toshiba systems, amongst others. The company’s proprietary coils include the Procure prostate coil, pediatric blanket and brain coils, spine, vascular, and several extremity coils. ScanMed was founded by Dr. Randall Jones, an nnovator with a doctorate in electrical engineering, and 30 years of experience in medical imaging. Dr. Jones—ScanMed’s CEO—and his team have been awarded 12 design patents and developed numerous trade secrets, enabling ScanMed to be the foremost MRI depot-level coil repair partner for healthcare networks, independent service organizations and diagnostic imaging parts suppliers.
 
Both ScanMed and DirectMed are certified and compliant with ISO 13485:2016, the quality management system that meets the most rigorous regulations for the medical device marketplace.
